Deficit increases by €7 billion during first half of 2021

The third wave of coronavirus infections in January helped cause a sizeable spike in the deficit, which increased by over €7 billion during the first half of 2021 (when compared to the same period in 2020). Bearing in mind that 2020 was only affected by the pandemic mid-way through the first half of the year, the public deficit has increased by roughly €150 million, reports the government today.
