Following the government’s announcements yesterday over support being offered to families unable to make mortgage payments, consumer association DECO warns of the small print in the resolution, which will, it believes, see one in four families failing to qualify. Help from the government, either in paying rents or mortgages may only ever reach “a minority of Portuguese”, says DECO after conducting its own analysis. According to SIC television news today: “The government doesn’t know the number of families who will be covered by this support”, leaving the matter in the hands of the banks.
