DECO receives 50 calls for help from debt beset Portuguese families every day

Families are being forced to make drastic adjustments due to the sudden increase in the cost of living. Consumers association DECO says it is receiving around 50 requests for help per day, and fears “the worst is yet to come”. The Euribor (average interest rate) which regulates interest on bank loans is rising “much more rapidly than expected”, says the association, and this is causing families to seek to cut back on loans, and to a certain extent, even reduce expenditure on ‘essential items’ in order to make ends meet.
