This week’s meeting of the Council of Ministers is being billed as “expected to announce further restrictions” later today – principally to municipalities in the north where the spread of the Delta variant has started to ‘pick up speed’. Says Observador online, the focus is on “preventing a peak of infections expected in August”. The truth is that the number of new infections being flagged every day is increasing (yesterday’s bulletin for example registered over 4,000 new infections) but it is also true that the vast majority of these infections are mild and require no special treatment whatsoever.
