Decision over legality of Uber taxi service expected within days

Apparently reluctant to decide on the legality of cut-price Uber taxis themselves, the government has handed the job over to the AMT (authority of transports and mobility), which now has 10 days from receipt of the request to formulate its decision.

As transport regulator João Carvalho has already said: “The laws of the sector leave no doubts”. Uber is not listed as a ‘transport operator’ and thus cannot carry passengers.

Carvalho’s assertions will now have to be put on paper, with all the necessary legal back-up.
