Victory for Moncarapachense against Os Belenenses in Lisbon on Sunday will see them promoted to Liga 3.
This would be their highest ever placing and one level above their more illustrious neighbours SC Olhanense who only eight years ago were playing in the Primeira Liga alongside the likes of Benfica, Sporting and FC Porto.
Last Sunday, Moncarapachense entertained Olhanense at Estádio Dr. António Eusébio. In a hard-fought encounter, it was the visitors who had the better chances, with Leandro rattling the crossbar before a point-blank double save by Moncarapachense keeper João Azul ensured a clean sheet.
The goalless draw means the Moncarapacho team go into the final game level on points with Os Belenenses but with an inferior goal count. League leaders GD Fontinhas suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at Sertanense but remain a point clear at the top.
Two of the top three will be promoted and the most interesting scenario is if the team from the Azores lose their last game at home to Pêro Pinheiro with the Belenenses and Moncarapachense match ending level; then it will be down to the mathematicians to sort out the final two.
Olhanense, bottom of the six-team league, end a truly disappointing campaign with a home game against Sertanense at José Arcanjo Stadium, Olhão (behind McDonalds on the EN125) this Sunday – kick-off 2pm.
