Debt collecting agency predicts ‘non performing loan’ explosion

Luís Salvaterra of debt collecting agency Intrum Portugal has warned that companies who request credit lines through the pandemic will end up going bust.

“There will be a lot of non-compliance and banks will demand guarantees”, he told Dinheiro Vivo this week. “We’re in for a very complicated time”.

The banking moratoria will stave off problems this year, he said, but next year will bring issues home to roost.

“NPL will increase for sure”, he forecasts.
