Death-trap EN125 claims third victim in four weeks

In the third fatal accident on the notorious EN125 in the last month, one man died today and another was injured in a collision near Almancil.

The causes of the accident are still unclear.

It is understood that one of the men died on the spot, while the other was taken to Faro Hospital with minor injuries.

According to rescue services command CDOS Faro, the accident happened at 1.20pm.

Police confirmed it was the third recent death on the road that locals continually claim is overused as drivers avoid the now tolled A22 Via do Infante.

A month ago, Algarve musician Miguel Drago was killed in a head-on collision near AlgarveShopping and on April 30 57-year-old bus driver Sérgio Catarino died after crashing into a house on the side of the road near Guia.

Previously, the road has been dogged by death and road traffic accidents for years – with many calling it “one of the most dangerous roads in Europe”.
