Deaf bowls festival week

The second Deaf Bowls Festival was held at the Santo António Bowls Club in Alvor between October 17 and 24.

A total of 113 people, including 80 bowlers and their supporters, travelled from across the UK to play in the five day tournament.  Teams from across the UK, including Southend, Gillingham and Bristol from England, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee from Scotland, Brigend, Cardiff and Newport from Wales and Belfast and Dublin from Ireland, competed in the event.

The final saw two Welsh teams disputing the title, won by Brigend with players Christopher Charles, Gordon Chard, Hazel Rutherford and Barry Clark.

Next year, the event organisers are hoping to return to Portugal to play at the Vilamoura Bowls Club.
