The carcass of a 10-metre minke whale washed up near Praia da Rocha’s breakwater in Portimão on Tuesday.
The mammal is believed to have been dead for days as it had already started to decompose.
Due to the high tide, authorities had to wait until nightfall to safely remove the carcass, which was then taken to the Western Algarve landfill in Portimão.
