“Days of Jazz” Festival returns to Faro

The 7th edition of the Os Dias do Jazz Festival starts on Sunday, April 30, with performances taking place in various Faro venues until May 14.

Faro’s municipal theatre announced a lineup of national and international artists for the 7th edition of the “Os Dias de Jazz” (Days of Jazz) Festival. Starting on Sunday, April 30, and taking place until May 14, the festival promises to be an unforgettable musical experience, during which the city’s most emblematic venues will be filled with the sound of Jazz.

The festival is scheduled to start on International Jazz Day, Sunday, April 30, at the Teatro das Figuras. The event will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the “A Jazzar no Cinema Português” album, for which the Cineclube de Faro has invited bassist Zé Eduardo.

This will be followed by the presentation of the album “NIM” by Leon Baldesberger’s Meersalz, who has invited Sara Badalo and Desidério Lázaro to join him for this concert at the Clube Farense on May 4.

The following day, on May 5, the Lethes Theatre opens its doors to Desidério Lázaro Quartet, celebrating over a decade of editions. The Algarve artist will play “Oblivion”, his 9th album released in his name, which is the concluding album of the tetralogy that began with “Samsara”, followed by “Moving” and “Homegrown”, whose dominant theme was “philosophical reflection on the human condition and respective emotions”.

Next up will be the British Ebi Soda, who deliver their “innovative approach” at the Teatro das Figuras on May 6. The group maintains, according to the statement, “an artisanal and organic post-punk ethic, with songs often born in sweaty, smoky rooms rather than the big band lounge”.

The next highlight of the 7th edition of “Os Dias do Jazz” will be Miguel Martins, accompanied by two “important” names of Portuguese Jazz, José Salgueiro on the drums and Carlos Barreto on bass. The Miguel Martins Kaleidoscope ensemble will present its new record, “ATMAN”, at the Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Músicos, on May 12.

According to the press release, the moment which will bring together the largest number of musicians on stage at the festival will take place at the Teatro das Figuras on May 13. On this day, the “great voice of Brazilian Jazz, Alaíde Costa, will join the Algarve Jazz Orchestra for an evening which promises to enchant the Grand Auditorium”.

The festival ends at Clube Farense, on May 14, with the musician who started the event, Zé Eduardo, who invites all music lovers to “A Glass of Jazz” for a jazz evening with one of Europe’s best saxophonists, Perico Sambeat, accompanied by the Portuguese bassist’s trio.
