Dear Editor,
It was gratifying to read that David Thomas has been included in the Birthday Honours List for his services to crime prevention through the organisation he started, Safe Communities Portugal. However, his award has been somewhat devalued following the publication of David Cameron’s resignation honours list. For all his good work David Thomas was awarded the British Empire Medal, which is the lowest such award. By contrast, Isabel Spearman is to be given an OBE for being Samantha Cameron’s “stylist”! Incidentally, it is wrong to suggest that David’s award came from the Queen – the awards stem from recommendations by civil servants and politicians.
