David Cameron in Cascais

Two things seem quite clear about British prime minister David Cameron. He likes Portugal and he likes fish. The Tory leader is once again on a family summer holiday in the country – and once again he has been photographed in a fish market! Last year it was Aljezur, in the middle of the Algarve countryside; this year it is Cascais, in the uptown urban bustle near Lisbon.
But while the Portuguese press has been content to simply shoot a happy snap and depart, British media have been scathing – saying Cameron is not only wearing almost exactly the same summer outfit as he wore last year, but that his enthusiasm for fish is “inane”.
Expanding disparagingly on political opponent Ed Miliband’s accusation that Cameron is “a very sophisticated and successful exponent of a politics based purely on image”, the Daily Mail considers “that image is based largely on joining wife Samantha in public admiration of prawns and mussels”.
