Ray van Barneveld clinched his fourth BDO World Darts title at the Lakeside Country Club in Surrey last week. The Dutch ace beat England’s Martin Adams 6-2, despite a perfect start of 180 from his opponent. Successful in 1998, 1999 and 2003, Barneveld had lost out to eventual champion, Andy Fordham, last year. Chelsea star, Arjen Robben, was among a strong Dutch contingent cheering their man on and Barneveld was congratulated by Queen Beatrix of Holland on his return. Following several TV interviews, there are now calls for the sport to become an Olympic discipline – perhaps by London 2012?
