More than 30 people have suffered health problems requiring hospital treatment, in just two months, after using so-called ‘legal drugs’. According to data from the Ministry of Health, there have been 16 hospital admissions due to legal highs with two users being admitted in a coma. The Secretary of State’s Assistant to the Minister of Health, Fernando Leal da Costa, said these figures are proof that “these substances are very dangerous and a legal framework that prohibits the sale of these products must be implemented soon”. In Portugal, there are 40 so-called ‘smart shops’, where these drugs are sold legally as plant fertilisers.
