Prison sentences of between nine and 13 years were this week confirmed for a violent gang of nine criminals, including one woman, who carried out more than a dozen robberies on houses and petrol stations in the Algarve over a period of several weeks.
The gang, consisting of individuals of Romanian and Moldavian nationality and aged between 28 and 48, had been detained in March and held in custody, and the sentences by a Faro court were awaiting ratification by the Tribunal da Relação in Évora.
Apart from targeting safes to steal money and jewellery, the accused were said to have carried out vicious assaults on foreign individuals.
