Dangerous cliffs

ARH, the Algarve’s hydraulic administration, has identified more beaches where cliffs could be dangerous to beachgoers and placed new warning signs in the vicinity.

Cliffs at 76 beaches in the municipalities of Albufeira, Lagoa, Portimão, Silves, Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur were identified as being potentially dangerous.

Between 2009 and 2011, ARH carried out 31 interventions at beaches across the region, including assisted demolitions of cliffs said to pose a risk.

Beachgoers who ignore the warning signs placed on these beaches face fines.
