The first-ever Algarve Marathon in Faro aspiring to establish itself on the world stage did not enjoy the most promising of beginnings.
On Sunday morning a mere 300 or so runners went to the start, with unheralded Paulo Soares and Ana Vieira taking the men’s and women’s honours respectively.
