Dakar 2013, still based in South America with stages in Peru, Argentina and Chile, got under way last Saturday.
Ruben Faria from Olhão has taken part in the mythical off-road race ever since it first passed through the Algarve six years ago and now plays an important part in Cyril Despres’ KTM team.
The 38-year-old made a great start to this year’s edition, finishing seventh and fourth during the opening two stages to occupy second overall before dropping back into 11th following technical difficulties during day three. The Dakar, which is being covered by Eurosport, will continue until next Saturday January 19.
