Cyclists take to the road for disabled children

The charity bike ride ‘Passeio Solidário de Cicloturismo de Almancil’ is back for its third edition on April 6, this time to raise money for special horse-riding lessons for disabled children.
The main event is a 65km course for experienced cyclers with insurance and members of the Cycling Federation of the Algarve.
The route, say organisers, will be “fairly demanding” in comparison to previous years’ courses.
It begins at Almancil’s EB 2,3 school and goes on to Quinta do Lago, Laranjal, the Algarve Stadium, Stª Bárbara de Nexe, and Estoi, where cyclists will stop for refreshments at Snack Bar ‘Com Tradições’, opposite the Igreja Matriz.
The circuit then continues uphill towards Machados and São Brás de Alportel, going through the centre of Loulé and on to Franqueada, Vale Formoso, and finally back to the Almancil school.
While the cycling takes place, the school’s pupils and parents will host a number of other activities, including leisurely walks around Almancil.
There will be a lunch and musical entertainment, followed by a raffle, for which organisers are hoping for donations to be given out as prizes. They are particularly keen to have donations of cycling or sporting equipment.
The event is organised by the Escola EB 2,3 Almancil, Associação de Ciclismo do Algarve and the Núcleo Sportinguista de Portimão, with the help and support of Loulé council, the parish council of Almancil, the GNR police and ‘Riding for the Disabled’.
