Cyclists raise thousands for animal shelter

A charity bike ride organised by Eco Aid Algarve raised more than 3,500 euros for the Goldra Animal Sanctuary near Loulé.

The event saw 23 cyclists setting out from Paws 4 Pets in Albufeira on November 7 for the two-day ride to Cape St Vincent.

The wind picked up slowly, hampering progress during the Saturday afternoon. By the time the cyclists reached Alvor marina for the boat crossing to Meia Praia, the wind was so strong that the drop off point had to be moved making the journey across to Lagos a little more complicated than originally planned.

The cyclists arrived in Lagos and planned the second day of cycling. As it was forecast that the winds were due to increase from the North East, the cyclists set out from The Cape at 11am and battled their way back to Lagos.

Next year, Eco Aid Algarve is planning a bike ride from Albufeira to Spain.
