Cyclist safety

AN AIRBAG has been developed by Swedish manufacturer Autoliv, to inflate on the outside of vehicles in order to soften the blow for pedestrians and cyclists who are hit in accidents.

One of the safety devices is designed to inflate under the car’s bonnet to reduce impact on any cyclists who may land on it. Another stops someone going through glass as it inflates at the base of the windscreen.

Sensors trigger the airbags after sensing that a person is heading towards the vehicle after a collision.
