The victim was heading towards Albufeira at around 1pm when the Honda HRV is described as having moved into the opposite lane, colliding with him in the Ataboeira area, around a kilometre from AlgarveShopping.
The woman driving the SUV “lost control of the vehicle” though the reasons why are unclear, reports tabloid Correio da Manhã.
At around the same time on the same day, a 78-year-old man was seriously injured after being run over by a car while crossing the São Pedro road in Tavira. He was taken to Faro Hospital.
