After weeks of high-level cyber attacks on state-run websites, the government has finally created Portugal’s National Centre for Cybersecurity. Located within the national security office, it promises to develop measures to “prevent, detect and react to IT attacks and incidents” that put the functioning of infrastructures at risk. But, as Público newspaper points out, it has not been given any autonomy and thus fears are that it may lack “teeth” when it comes to efficiency.
