A malicious cyber attack over Christmas has forced the temporary shutdown of the Algarve Resident website.
Mike Almond, publishing director of the Resident Group, said this week: “We were one of many, many websites, including others in Portugal, subjected to widespread internet hacking which began on Christmas Eve.
“Our IT consultants are working on the problem and hope to have the issue resolved within a few days.”
In the meantime, the Resident site remains offline.
As a result, the popular Resident Online Poll is also suspended until further notice.
“I can only apologise to our readers and visitors for the loss of this important information source. It is frustrating for everyone involved,” said Mike Almond.
It is believed that more than 100,000 sites have been affected by the attack, which is said to have originated in Moldova.
