Cuttlefish farm

Algarve University is developing a pioneer project in Europe – to breed its own cuttlefish over the next five years, investigator José Pedro Andrade told Lusa news agency. According to the expert, the Ramalhete marine station in Faro, where the tests are being carried out, is the only laboratory in Europe to invest in intensive cuttlefish farming. The cuttlefish farming project is intended to preserve the species as often the smaller specimens, a delicacy much appreciated in Algarvian gastronomy, are captured illegally, even before reproductive age.
