“Cut off” by copper thieves

The little village of Moçarria, near Santarém, has been the latest to suffer the scourge of copper thieves whose metal-stripping antics targeting phone cables leave communities “cut off” for days.
The phone line blackout began on Thursday morning last week – and as phone lines these days supply TV and internet as well, people had to use their mobiles to register complaints.
The theft happened in the Quinta dos Cardeais area, where less than a month ago the same thing happened, plunging the village into a communications limbo of five days.
Santarém GNR are said to be investigating.
