Cultural exchange

As part of a cultural exchange, 13 children from The British School of the Algarve recently visited the Escola Básica Jacinto Correia, in Lagoa, to learn about the other school’s pupils.

Sandra Gonçalves, who works as a language teacher for both schools, invited the children studying Portuguese at the British School to meet pupils learning English at the Portuguese school.

Each pupil, as part of the exchange, was required to make a mini-presentation about themselves in the language they were learning. The enthusiasm that this visit generated was clearly visible at both schools, as each group rehearsed their individual performances – working to the principle of ‘practice makes perfect’. On the actual day, the presentations delivered were word perfect and each pupil stood proudly on stage to ‘strut their stuff’ in front of the group.

One pupil from the British School, Ruby, was lucky enough to have her birthday on the same day, so after everybody had finished their presentations, she was presented with a huge birthday cake.

All the children who took part enjoyed this opportunity so much that they have already asked if they can “do it again real soon”.
