The Festas da Cidade will be celebrated with three days of concerts and entertainment starting June 15.
Olhão is warming up for its annual Festas da Cidade. This year, the festivities will feature three nights of entertainment in the city’s downtown area on June 15, 16 and 17.
Fado singer Cuca Roseta will be the event’s headlining act, performing on June 16. However, there will be plenty more entertainment throughout the three nights of celebrations.
The first musical act to take the stage on June 15 in the Jardim Pescador Olhanense is Micaela at 22:00, followed by a Michael Jackson tribute act at 23:30.
On the cubist City’s Day, June 16, the concerts start at 22:00 with Cuca Roseta, while the Bubba Brothers will keep the party going for the rest of the night.
On June 17, to close the Festas da Cidade, Portuguese rock band Íris will perform at 22:00, followed by DJ João Paulo Sousa at 23:30. All concerts are free of admission.
The municipal holiday of June 16, the Dia da Cidade (Day of the City), marks the 215th anniversary of the expulsion of French troops by the people of the ancient village of Olhão. As a result of this expulsion, a group of fishermen left on the Caíque Bom Sucesso towards Brazil to inform the exiled king of the defeat of the invaders. Thus, as a sign of gratitude, the monarch decreed that the village become a town, giving it the title of Olhão da Restauração.
