Cuba in the eye of Portuguese businesses

The Cuban capital of Havana could very soon “represent a business opportunity for Portuguese companies working in renewable energies, the pharmaceutical industry and tourism”. Who says this is the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luís Campos Ferreira.
Talking to Lusa news agency, Ferreira confirmed that Portugal and Cuba are “intensifying political relationships”.
“There is a great chance of developing economic relations,” he said, after the first visit to Cuba of a Portuguese politician since 2009.
“Cuba is on the radar of major countries and large-scale European interests,” he added. “Portugal feels this opportunity and Cuba has given Portugal this opportunity.”
Political rhetoric aside, Portugal and Cuba have now signed up to a memorandum to “establish regular political relations with a view to “periodic exchanges of information”.
Ferreira’s visit saw a statue to Luís Vaz de Camões unveiled in Havana’s main square next to the Hotel Ambos Mundos (Both Worlds) where writer Ernest Hemingway used to stay.
