Cruise ships

Cruise ships of more than 200 metres in length will sail for the first time into the port of Portimão this year.

The dredging of the river Arade, which cost around 1.6 million euros, is expected to be complete in two months. With this, the number of cruises coming to the Algarve is expected to double in 2008.

The largest ship out of the 30 that are already guaranteed to come to the region in 2008 is the Thompson Celebration, with a length of 215 metres and a capacity for 500 staff and 1,300 passengers.
