Cruise company grows 14% in Portugal

MSC Cruises, a leading company in the cruise industry in the Mediterranean, South Africa and Brazil, grew 14% in Portugal compared to 2011 as the Portuguese number of passengers increased to 9,462 by the end of 2012.

According to Eduardo Cabrita, General Director of MSC Cruises in Portugal: “The balance is clearly positive. We started the year 2012 with an optimistic outlook and were able to effectively achieve a growth of about 14% compared to the previous year. I think that MSC Cruises’ bet on national ports and the arrival of MSC Divina to Funchal last November represented two very positive factors for the company’s growth in Portugal.”

This year the new MSC Preziosa will visit Lisbon on March 16. “With the arrival of MSC Preziosa, which is scheduled to be inaugurated on March 23 in Genoa, Italy, the company concludes its investment plan of €6 billion. Next year, MSC Cruises expects to reach 6.1 million passengers and also intends to increase by 15% its accommodation capacity. In Portugal, we expect that the cruises market continues to grow and that MSC Cruises continues to monitor this growth,” concluded Eduardo Cabrita.
