New players took to the crown green on February 22 at the Amendoeira Bowls Club, including four from Canada who had never bowled on a crown green before.
Although some of the new players managed to reach the semi finals, it was regular winner John Greenwood and new Amendoeira member Jean King who beat Barry Walton and Joyce Howell 11-6 in the final to become overall winners.
Last Thursday’s competition had to be cancelled due to bad weather. Competitions on the crown green are held weekly on Mondays and Thursday and start at 10am with a flat competition being held on Fridays. The competition is open to bowlers of all levels and costs five euros to enter. Newcomers are encouraged with free lessons being given to those who are interested.
