Crossing turtles cause havoc on JFK runway

A runway was closed at JFK airport after 78 terrapin turtles made their slow way across the runway.

The runway, which leads out to a bay, had to be closed after the turtles had come up out of the water.

Passengers had to wait while the turtles were removed by airport staff.

Flights were delayed for over an hour at the busy airport in New York, which has up to 48 million passengers each year.

The turtles were safely put back into the wild.
