Members of the Bela Romão Croquet Club, near Fuseta, will be representing Portugal in the World Golf Croquet Championships in England from May 18 to 20.
Tier Three of the global competition will feature Georgia, Norway, Portugal and Russia with matches being played at the Guildford & Godalming Croquet Club some 50 kilometres south-west of London.
Lita Gale, Sarah F. Byrne, Mick and June Brown and John and Jenny Melton will be representing Portugal. Lita Gale said: “This is an exciting time for the club as it represents the Croquet Federation of Portugal on the world stage. We recently had several world class players from Latvia visit Bela Romão and we learnt much from our illustrious guests.”
In Tier One of the competition, World Champions Egypt will compete against top seeds New Zealand, USA, Ireland and Sweden at the Surbiton Croquet Club in south-west London from May 15 to 21.
Tier Two will see Australia, Belgium, Czech-Moravian Republic, Germany, Latvia, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland competing (May 15-20) at the Bath Croquet Club, and Camerton and Peasdown Croquet Clubs in south-west England.
