Croquet hits the world stage

Dusan Turcer, a member of the Bela Romão Croquet Country Club at Fuseta, has been allocated a place in the World Championships being staged in England this summer.

The 35-year-old project manager from Luz de Tavira, who has only been playing the sport for 15 months, has shown tremendous aptitude for the sport and he becomes the first player to represent Portugal at the World Championships where he will be playing against top seeded competitors.

Dusan has been handed one of 74 places in the Championships being played at Godalming, Surrey from July 27 to August 4.

Lita Gale and Sarah Byrne, who founded the prestigious Bela Romão club just six years ago, are rightly proud that all their efforts are being recognised internationally. With three croquet lawns and top-quality hospitality, it is no wonder that players from far and wide are making a beeline to the Algarve. C
