Croquet club goes international

Last year the Bela Romão Croquet Club staged the second Portuguese World Championship Tournament and now the club is set to rise even further in its international standing. The creation of two additional lawns should be completed over the next few months with stunning views over Fuseta and the Ria Formosa islands.

Croquet Club president Lita Gale said: “These are exciting times for our fledgling club that has made tremendous strides in the last two years. Later in June, we will be competing in the first Iberico Cup at El Puerto de Santa María, Cadiz.”
Recently World Cup referee and top international coach Michael Hague from Woking, Surrey, held several coaching sessions at the club as members prepare for a summer of exciting competition. Social events for members also play an integral part in the success of the club. Sunday brunch, private dining, afternoon teas, Last Night of the Proms, Bonfire Night and additional festive holiday events help to create a friendly camaraderie where people of all nationalities mingle around the pool and gardens surrounding the croquet lawns.

In addition, there are now plans to develop a Mediterranean Cooking School there under chef Sarah Byrne.
