Croquet and jazz at Bela Romão Croquet Club

The Bela Romão Croquet Club in Moncarapacho, Olhão, is holding an ‘open afternoon’ followed by a jazz concert on Saturday, November 8.
From 3pm to 5pm, visitors will be welcome to visit the club and grounds, learn about, and play, croquet and listen to a short talk about the game.
Then, starting at 5pm, the five piece Dixie Kings will be playing a mixture of blues, stomps, ragtime, spirituals and popular tunes from the 1920s.
The band was formed in 1998 by a group of international jazz musicians, all now living in the Algarve. They quickly became established in the area as the premiere group playing Dixieland and New Orleans-style jazz music from the 1920s.
In 1999, the band appeared at the Loulé International Jazz Festival, followed by a concert tour taking in all the major cities of Portugal, culminating at the prestigious Lisboa concert hall Culturgest.
After this tour, the band soon became one of the busiest bands playing music for listening and dancing in the Algarve.
The current line-up is Tony Scriven (drums/vocals/leader) from London, Ray Charsley (trumpet/vocals) from London, Dave Lawson (clarinet/saxophones) from Middlesborough, Cory Sea (guitar/vocals) from New York and Luís Hilário (double bass) from Lagos.
The charge for attending the jazz concert (3×45-minute sets) is €10. Snacks and drinks will be on sale.
