The rains during April and May have helped many of Portugal’s crops to recover, but the rainfall still didn’t prevent cereal production from decreasing between 15 and 30%, according to the May agricultural estimates made by the National Statistics Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estatística). Barley crops have fallen by 15%, whilst oat suffered a 20% drop. Triticale, a hybrid of wheat and rye, faced the largest decrease, with a 30% drop.
