Crimes up 10% in Portugal’s schools

Despite the combined PSP/GNR “Safe School” programme, crimes registered inside Portugal’s schools have increased by over 10% recently – most of them involving “aggressions” and thefts.

Commenting on the data compiled by police, the leader of the national association of parents Jorge Ascenção said the problem is not helped by government cuts, which leave many pupils “abandoned” in schools that do “not have the means” to properly care for them.
