A bus driver in the US city of Washington was detained and charged with assault after punching a policeman for fun.
Shawn Brim, 38, thought it would be amusing to take the bite out of McGruff the crime dog by punching the mascot in the face, but police said children who witnessed the stunt were horrified.
Officer Tyrone Hardy, who was handing fliers to children on a Washington street while dressed as the crime dog suffered a swollen right cheek.
After the punch, Shawn Brim got back on his bus and drove away, but was quickly pulled over before being charged with assault.
He later told a supervisor he was trying to be funny when he punched McGruff, who urges children to “take a bite out of crime”.
