Cricket-filled weekend at the Casuals

news: Cricket-filled weekend at the Casuals

While cricket took centre stage at the Lisbon Casuals Sports Club last weekend, all other sports sections will be back in full swing this coming weekend, as most members and non-members are back from their summer holidays. Many Casuals members and guests, as well as the British NATO team, filled the Astro pitch at St. Julian’s International School in Carcavelos on Saturday to play in a friendly cricket ‘beer match’. The Lisbon Casuals beat the visiting British NATO All-Stars, scoring 168 runs for the loss of six wickets, which compares to NATO’s 151 for five. The leading scorer was the Casual’s Paulo Buccimazza, with 32 runs. On the bowling side, there was an outstanding performance by Brad Hogg, who took three wickets for eight runs in two overs.

The Lisbon Cricket League continued its league play on Sunday, and the Friends Cricket Club (FCC) finally got revenge by beating the side that won the match two weekends ago, the Asian Cricket Club (ACC), by six wickets. ACC were all out for 178. The FCC made 181 runs for the loss of four wickets in reply.

The league is part of the Portuguese Cricket Federation (Federação Portuguesa de Cricket) and plays its games on the two Astroturf pitches that were laid out in March of this year at St. Julian’s School.

On Saturday and Sunday this weekend, the annual Kendall Cup will be held in Porto, where the Porto Cricket Club will take on Lisbon Cricket Club. The following weekend league play will resume, with a match between Oeiras Cricket Club (OCC), formerly the Lisbon Casuals cricket team, and Comunidade Hindu Portuguesa (CHP).
