Australia’s Ashes tour of England is finally hitting top gear. In the Nat West one day international series England were beaten with ease in mid-week. Martyn and Symonds made sizeable contributions to a total of 266 runs, which England had little chance of beating after finding themselves at 6 for 3 at one stage. Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath inflicted the damage as Trescothick, Strauss and Collingwood all went cheaply, only Flintoff and Solanki adding an air of respectability to the final scoreline.
On Saturday, it was Bangladesh’s turn to feel the full force of the Aussie’s vengeance; bowled out for 139, Gilchrist and Hayden then proceeded to put together an opening stand of 140 not out – a 10 wicket thrashing with 31 of 50 overs to spare. It promises to turn into a long and hot summer!
