Faro Câmara has launched a public tender for the construction of a crematorium, the first in the Algarve.
Faro Mayor Macário Correia told the Algarve Resident: “We have had many requests from people for the construction of a crematorium in the Algarve. People have to travel a long way to the nearest crematorium, which is located in Ferreira do Alentejo.”
The crematorium will be constructed in the new cemetery at Estrada da Penha and is due to start operating next year.
