A temporary memorial statue for the former Parkalgar-Honda rider, Craig Jones, which was unveiled at the Algarve Motor Park on October 22, has been removed.
A spokesman from the motor park told the Algarve Resident that the statue was removed “for security reasons” but will be replaced with the permanent statue when it is completed next year.
Sculptor Paula Hespanha said that a seven-tonne marble statue is due to be ready by July 2010 and is a replica from a photograph of Craig Jones when he crossed the finishing line at the Misano circuit in Italy.
Craig Jones died tragically in August last year following an accident at the Brands Hatch race.
