CR7 is world’s most followed man on social media

Cristiano Ronaldo is the most followed man in the world on social media, according to a report compiled by Apple Tree Communications.

The Portuguese football star has a total of 238 million followers on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages, a number trumped only by American pop star Taylor Swift (246 million).

The top five is completed by three other women: Katy Perry (219 million), Selena Gomez (205 millions) and Rihanna (190 million).

The report stresses how “13 people in the top 20 are related to music, 60 per cent are women and 65 per cent were born in the United States”.

Interestingly, just last weekend Ronaldo made a point of saying how popular he was on the internet after former Barcelona player Xavi Hernandez took a shot at the Real Madrid star by saying that “there is no comparison” between Ronaldo and his largest rival, “Lionel Messi”.

“The most searched for player on the Internet is me,” the Portuguese international answered back.

“Those that want to appear on front covers to promote themselves speak about me.

“What does it matter to me what Xavi says, he plays in Qatar now.

“He’s won everything but he’s never won a Ballon d’Or – I have three,” he added.
