Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal’s national football team have been nominated for the 2017 Laureus World Sports Awards, which annually “celebrate the outstanding achievements of sportsmen and sportswomen around the world”.
CR7, who received his fourth Ballon d’Or and the title of ‘Best Player’ from FIFA for his remarkable achievements with Real Madrid and Portugal in 2016, faces other nominees including Olympic running champions Mo Farah and Usain Bolt, British tennis sensation Andy Murray, and basketball superstars Stephen Curry and LeBron James.
While the Portugal team will be contending against Brazil men’s football team, NBA champions Cleveland Cavaliers, USA’s baseball champions Chicago Cubs, Champions League winner Real Madrid and Formula 1’s Mercedes AMG Petronas.
The award ceremony will be held in Monaco on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
