Covid vaccines for tots and babies: Vaccine technical commission confirms it’s “one of scenarios being considered”

Closing a busy day of conflicting information, Válter Fonseca, coordinator of the vaccine technical commission has told TSF radio that “sooner or later, the discussion on administration of the Covid vaccine to children under the age of five will arrive in Portugal”, following Pfizer’s request to the US medicines regulator for emergency use authorisation of the vaccine in babies. On the one hand the world is being told the ‘emergency’ is no longer an emergency, on the other drug companies are still pushing ‘emergency use vaccines’. This weekend’s Open House vaccination campaign for the over-5s will show perhaps how receptive the Portuguese public is to vaccinations for the nation’s youngest generations.
