Covid-19 transmission “back up to 0.98”

The transmissibility index (Rt) of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has risen to 0.98 in Portugal, increasing in all mainland areas of the country and Madeira, the Ricardo Jorge Institute (INSA) has announced. According to INSA’s latest report, cited by Lusa, on the evolution of Covid-19 cases, the average Rt value between 18 and 22 October was 0.98 in Portugal, which represents an increase compared to 0.88 in the period between 11 and 15 of this month. This far, no data has been presented on increasing rates of hospital admissions/ deaths, but health minister Manuel Pizarro has insisted “there is no reason at all” for  Portuguese to be overly concerned.
