Leiria court has just spent around €10,000 on renovations to ensure it’s ready for a trial into the alleged €3.2 million fraud of designer footwear, that damaged household names like Nike, Converse and Adidas.
Expenses included the purchase of new tables and chairs for the 79 ‘arguidos’ (official suspects) – most of them Moroccans – and their legal representatives.
The scheme involved fraudulent ‘sales’ over Facebook between 2016-2018.
Hundreds of people were reeled into the scam, receiving in return for their money either shoddy counterfeit goods, or even used trainers.
Explain reports, before being raided, the various groups involved were receiving “up to 500 orders per day”.
It is alleged that the scam was aided by the opening of post office boxes by two Post Office workers.
